2/16/2020; Week 6: Response to Personal Space Differences

Classroom challenges of making a difference in personal space are the distance of classmates to their seats when there is a difference in their culture, lending school equipment or borrowing one another’s personal belongings and touch when talking with his or her classmate. These can be solved if everyone knows what the other’s culture is. As a teacher, it is the responsibility to point out cultural differences in the personal space in his or her classroom, to avoid cultural misunderstandings.  Every student should let them get to know each other.

In American culture, they are not crowded, and they follow the line. This is a good culture for avoiding physical harm to everyone when riding the bus. We have a culture in my country the most irritated of many, is that there are people who insist on the line and want to come first. We may face different cultures in our classroom that can cause misinterpret by other cultures. The students must understand that each of them has a different culture when it comes to personal space and that they need to know it. Help them and teach them to respect each other.

The cultures I learned in this lesson helped me a lot as becoming a teacher. I would like to imitate the good culture of others and avoid my cultural practices that were not helpful and could cause misunderstandings. I think that everyone have right to choose what we want to emulate in the cultures we know. When other cultures are also open-minded to accepting the culture of others it can create a good relationship.
