In our school culture, it is important to show good manners and right conduct. It contributes a huge percentage to the student’s score. In the TESOL classroom, it might not be applicable because the students have different manners from their cultures, and sometimes it is not acceptable to others. Like for instance, in our cultural manners when you sit at the desk inside the classroom the girl should be sitting straight with thighs close, the arm resting on the desk and keep quiet. Especially when there is a visitor at the school. I think that other culture may not be able to do this, they may be offended. Every student in the class needs to be comfortable with their way of acting and consider their manners as it maybe because it is part of their culture. To resolve the problem as a teacher should avoid making the judgement on students’ manners.
In the classroom, the students came from some other places with have different manners that may bother the teacher. Dealing with the differences of manners in the classroom and to resolve the problem is the teacher should avoid making the judgement on students’ manners. Get to know each of them and teach the class to respect their differences.
I realized the different manners that others had; I have seen how I could consider the differences. In my culture, I have identified which bad habits are doing not comfortable with others, that I may not be able to change it, but I can improve it and the others may not feel bothered in my manners. In this way, I can manage my classroom with the knowledge of different manners that my students have. I will make them feel comfortable in learning the language despite the differences.
